What is OTC on ICE?

OTC-ON ICE! is a celebration of winter in Minnesota. It is a frozen fusion of music, food & fun.  Our main attraction is the music.  There will be 6 homegrown bands performing under the big top.  There will also be beverages, food and other activities.

Is there a fishing contest?

YES! For the first time in OTC-ON ICE! history, there will be a fishing derby. It will be an online derby, so you can participate while you are in your fish house. We will be announcing those details in December.

Is this family friendly?

YES! While adult beverages will be served, this is an event the whole family can enjoy.

How many bands will be there?

Six bands total. Two bands will be performing Friday, January. 31st & four bands will play Saturday, Feb. 1st.

Do I have to stay on the ice?

No. Area hotels/resorts will be happy to host you. Many are offering transportation from the hotel/resort to OTC on ICE.

Where do I get will-call tickets?
You may pick up will-call tickets at the ticket booth at the entrance to the event tent.

Otter Tail lake is quite large, where exactly is this taking place?
This year, the Big Tent will be in the Thumper Pond parking lot.

The Polar Plunge will use the Otter Tail Lake public boat landing on the East side of the lake located off MN Highway 78, just south of the city of Ottertail. (click here for map) There will be transportation between the Big Tent and the Plunge location during the Polar Plunge event.

What if the ice isn’t thick enough?

If the ice isn’t thick enough, the event will be held in the Thumper Pond parking lot.

What if the temperatures are too cold?

We’re Minnesotan…so hopefully that isn’t an issue. However, we also want to be safe. If temperatures are extremely cold, the festivities will be moved inside at Thumper Pond Resort.

How can I get involved?

Press Releases From the Event:

COME EXPERIENCE WINTER IN OTTER TAIL LAKES COUNTRY

December 11, 2019 – Otter Tail County, MN– OTC-ON ICE! the best darn music festival on ice, returns with a jammed, packed lineup of fun and fundraising. The musical event will feature six bands with headliner Tigerlily returning for another entertaining performance. Whiskey Business and 32 Below will get the party started Friday, January 31. The White Iron Band, Corey Medina & Brothers, Patrick Murphy & Tigirlily will take the stage on Saturday, February 1. The music festival on ice will once again take place on Otter Tail Lake. Purchase tickets today at otconice.com.

One of the goals of OTC-ON ICE is to celebrate and support local music. Many of the artists have ties to Minnesota or neighboring states. Tigirlily hails from Hazen, ND, and their 2019 performance at OTC-ON ICE created an energetic following of fans in Otter Tail County. Patrick Murphy, an up and coming Nashville country star, originally from Perham, is sure to be a hit with the locals. Whiskey Business, another band from Perham, covers bands from AC/DC to Trapt. An appropriate sounding band for the event, 32 Below, is a group of hard-working rural boys from Fargo, ND. They’ve played for a National Football League halftime show. White Iron Band hails from Minnesota’s Iron Range and is sure to play hits from their new album “Homebrew.” Bemidji based Corey Medina & Brothers are quickly becoming legendary in the Northwoods for playing great music from the heart.

This year Law Enforcement for Special Olympics of Minnesota is bringing the chilling Polar Plunge to the event. Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office is partnering in the event to raise money for Special Olympics, the organization’s biggest fundraiser. Gather your friends or challenge a co-worker and form a team to raise money for this organization. Fundraising is required to participate in the Polar Plunge, but the minimum $75.00 you raise accomplishes so much more than getting you to jump into Otter Tail Lake in February! Examples of where your donation goes:
$60 – Provides an eye examination and a pair of glasses for two Special Olympics Minnesota athletes
$100 – Sends a Unified Pair to ALPs University – Special Olympics Minnesota’s athlete leadership program
$250 – Implements an entire Respect Campaign into a school/business/organization
$500 – Provides funding to start a brand-new Special Olympics Minnesota Delegation
$1250 – Sends a Special Olympics Minnesota athlete to Special Olympics USA Games
Sign up today! The goal is to raise $40,000 at OTC-ON ICE. The plunge begins at 12:00 pm on February 1. Check in for the plunge is from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Use the Otter Tail Lake Public Boat Landing located off MN Highway 78. To register please visit: plungemn.org/events/otter-tail/

You are invited to immerse yourselves in our lifestyle and #FindYourInnerOtter.

FISHING- First and foremost, Otter Tail County has more lakes than any other county in the nation. Ice fishing opportunities abound and it's easier than one might think. Unlike other destinations that have one large major body of water that is the center of attention, we have over 1,000 lakes that hold world class bluegill and crappie fishing. Maybe you'd like to do a story on spearing for Northern Pike? Don't worry, we have walleye fishing too. Otter Tail Lake, the site of OTC-ON ICE! is nearly 14,000 acres and is considered by many to be a walleye factory.

SNOWMOBILING- We have snow, and the trails are groomed. Otter Tail County has a sophisticated snowmobile trail system. Local clubs oversee maintaining the trails and we will arrange a ride-along if desired.

MUSIC- Our music lineup  includes; 32 Below, Patrick Murphy, Corey Medina & Brothers, White Iron Band, Whiskey Business.  Last but certainly not least is Tigirlily. Two gals from a small town in North Dakota who have moved to Nashville, TN to chase their dream of being stars.

There are plenty of stories to be told and a good time to be had. If you are interested in learning more or planning to attend, please contact Erik Osberg, Rural Rebound Initiative Coordinator, Otter Tail County.
